Program Goals
Management Principles I - design to meet the needs of the new manager
(1 to 3 years' managerial experience).
Prerequisistes: Currently be in a managerial role or have completed the EA Supervisory Skills Certificate Program.
The first module in the EA Leadership Series, Management Principles I is the follow-up course to the EA's popular Supervisory Skills Certificate Program.
Designed specifically with the needs of the new manager in mind, Management Principles I is a broad-based educational module that will provide the new manager with the essential skills necessary to:
- Effectively communicate with people having various behavioral styles and personalities types
- Understand the functions and roles of managers
- Manage in a legally compliant manner
- Learn how to accomplish work through others
- Build teams using style diversity
- Recruit and retain the right people for his/her team
- Accurately evaluate current team members
- Develop high performance employees

Your Instructors:
Jack Hollister, is the President of The Employers' Association (EA), a member-oriented service organization that provides information, training and other services to augment the human resources and management functions of the member firms. Jack received his BS and MBA degrees from BGSU. Jack started his business career with Century Marketing Corporation in Bowling Green, and was Executive Vice President and General Manager of Clark Fixture Technologies before coming to the EA. Areas of expertise include leadership development and strategic planning.
Dave Hyslop, PhD, has served as a trainer and consultant to various service, industrial, and non-profit organizations for over 20 years. In addition to his business experience as a production supervisor for General Motors and manager with AT&T, Dave has served as a business education professor and department chair at Bowling Green State University for over 25 years. Dave's consulting experiences include conducting workshops on leadership, employee motivation, communications, and performance management.
Tom Dixon, Esq., Mr. Dixon, of Eastman and Smith, practices throughout Ohio in the area of management labor and employment law. His practice covers the range of employment issues, including counseling on employment policies and handbooks, training of supervisors and managers, representation in administrative proceedings, defending discrimination claims, and providing guidance on the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, drug testing, sexual harassment, wage-hour matters, and av ariety of other issues. he also provides assistance on union organizational campaigns, union avoidance, negotiation and administration of labor contracts, labor arbitration, wrongful discharge, employment-at-will litigation and civil rights litigation.
