This session will give you practical skills to prepare for, and be successful at, union negotiations.

  • Marshalling data necessary to support Management’s proposals, and responding to union requests for data.
  • Communicating during the pre-negotiations period.
  • Importance of decisions involving the Who, When, and Where of negotiations.
  • Preparing for strikes and lockouts.
  • Developing an overall strategy for negotiations.
  • Understanding the “give and take” of negotiations, and what the law requires of both sides.
  • Positioning the employer to use the lawful economic weapons available to it.

What management does in the months and weeks leading up to labor negotiations often spells the difference between success and failure.  As the saying goes, “Fail to plan – plan to fail!”
